All of JLOF’s projects and programs use grassroots principles and engages community involvement through pre-existing and locally facilitated structures. JLOF’s main role is to facilitate and strengthen need-based initiatives of the local communities.

JLOF is community-based and the work is led by people who live and work in the community. Being their home, they have in-depth understanding of the local cultures, traditions and they are best positioned to access remote areas (the periphery of the periphery).
Being rooted in the culture facilitates communication and assessment of what the real needs of the community are. Innovative and creative methods may be used to deliver lasting solutions. This is a guarantee for continuity and sustainability as they can follow and quickly adapt to changes in the needs of the community.

JLOF works through practical and sustainable projects and programs to improve opportunities for the poor and vulnerable in the communities where it works in the following areas:

  • Education
  • Culture
  • Ecology/Environment
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Community Health and Wellbeing
