Follow the Awards Ceremony - Live!
Today marks the grand finale of Jeremiah Lucas Opira Memorial Essay Contest 2025, as we gather to celebrate the creativity, critical thinking, and courage of young voices from Northern Uganda.
Since the contest launched on 15 September 2024, students have worked with dedication to craft essays that not only reflect their own ideas but also contribute to important conversations about equality and inclusion.
This year’s participants were asked to reflect on one of two powerful questions:
- What can we do to help people stand up against unfair treatment based on gender and encourage everyone to be included and treated equally?
- Write an essay about how cultural activities, like festivals or community events, can help promote gender equality.
The response has been overwhelming. More than 90 students, representing over 20 schools, have sent in essays filled with passion, creativity, and thoughtful solutions. Each essay is a testament to the strength of the next generation’s voice in shaping a more just and inclusive society.
Now, the contest reaches its most exciting moment: the Awards Ceremony. Here, the winners will be revealed, their achievements recognized, and their voices amplified.
We invite you to join us for this year’s Awards Ceremony live via livestream.
The ceremony will take place on Saturday, August 30th at 10:00 Ugandan time (09:00 Swedish time).
