Samuel Orach: A Voice for Justice, Dignity, and Hope

Supporting survivors, strengthening communities, and working toward a future free from violence.

For Samuel Orach, creating a more equal society begins with standing alongside those who need support the most. As a social worker, lawyer, counsellor, and advocate, he has dedicated his life to helping vulnerable individuals navigate difficult circumstances while promoting fairness, accountability, and respect within the community.

Over the years, Samuel has become a trusted voice in Northern Uganda, known for his commitment to justice, compassion, and the wellbeing of others. Whether providing counselling, supporting survivors, or advocating for accountability, he has consistently worked to create positive change.

“My understanding of gender equality is that every person, whether a man or a woman, should be recognized, respected, and given equal opportunities.”

That belief shapes much of his work. Through counselling and community sensitization programs, Samuel provides mental health support and guidance to people facing personal challenges, including survivors of gender-based violence. His goal is not only to help individuals recover from difficult experiences, but also to ensure they feel seen, valued, and empowered.

His dedication has earned him the trust of those around him. Community members know him as someone who listens, follows through on his commitments, and genuinely cares about the wellbeing of others.

One memorable example of this appreciation came when members of the community presented him with a chicken as a gift. While simple, the gesture reflected something much larger: the respect and gratitude he has built through years of service.

“The community respects and trusts me because of my consistent involvement and positive interactions with its members.”

For Samuel, advocacy also means taking action when injustice occurs.

Over the years, he has followed up on cases of gender-based violence and worked to ensure that vulnerable individuals receive protection and access to justice. In one case in Nwoya District in 2024, he supported efforts surrounding a defilement case that ultimately resulted in the perpetrator being held accountable. In another case involving a girl living with a mental illness, he worked to ensure that justice was pursued and that the victim received the support she deserved.

These experiences have strengthened his belief that communities become safer when harmful behavior is challenged and accountability is upheld.

“I want to see homes free from violence and ensure that everyone, regardless of gender, has equal opportunities to thrive.”

His commitment to equality extends beyond legal cases and advocacy work.

Samuel is particularly passionate about ensuring that women and girls, including those living with disabilities, are treated fairly and have opportunities to participate fully in society. He recalls advising a pastor to take responsibility for a child he had fathered with a woman living with a disability, helping to ensure that both mother and child received the care and support they deserved.

Through actions like these, Samuel seeks to promote dignity, accountability, and inclusion for individuals whose voices are too often overlooked.

“I support the inclusion and voices of women and girls by advocating for equal treatment, especially for those with disabilities.”

The values he promotes in the community are the same values he strives to practice at home.

He works to create a safe and supportive environment for his wife and children, believing that boys and girls should be treated equally and given the same opportunities to succeed. For Samuel, strong families are built on fairness, respect, and shared responsibility.

Whether engaging with elders, women, or young people, Samuel approaches every interaction with humility and respect. He believes that meaningful dialogue begins with listening and that communities become stronger when everyone feels heard.

“With women and youth, I engage through encouragement, active participation, and creating spaces where they can freely share their ideas and concerns.”

Integrity remains one of the principles that guide his work. He believes leadership is not about titles or recognition but about consistently doing what is right, even when no one is watching.

By following professional standards, respecting others, and remaining accountable for his actions, he strives to lead by example in both his personal and professional life.

Samuel’s dedication to service has been visible throughout his career. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he supported people living with HIV/AIDS, work that earned public recognition and further reinforced his commitment to serving those in need.

Today, he continues to advocate for greater awareness of gender-based violence and remains actively involved in community initiatives. Although access to reliable transportation can sometimes make fieldwork challenging, he remains determined to continue his work wherever it is needed.

“I am committed to advocating for greater awareness of gender-based violence in the community.”

For Samuel, the vision is clear: communities where people live in peace, where homes are free from violence, and where every individual has the opportunity to thrive regardless of gender.

His work demonstrates that lasting change is often built through consistent acts of service, compassion, and courage. By supporting survivors, promoting accountability, and creating spaces where all voices can be heard, he is helping to build stronger and more inclusive communities for future generations.

The Jeremiah Lucas Opira Foundation and Northhood Production Initiative are honored to recognize Samuel Orach as one of the winners of the National Champions Advancing Inclusion Awards 2026. His dedication to justice, dignity, and community empowerment serves as a powerful reminder that meaningful change begins with individuals who choose to stand up for others.
