A teacher and youth leader championing girls' education and equal opportunities.

For Timothy Waigolo, education is about far more than preparing young people for the future. It is one of the most powerful tools for creating equality, protecting human rights, and strengthening communities.
A trained teacher with a degree in Information Technology, Timothy combines education with leadership. Alongside his profession, he serves as Youth Chairperson of Namungalwe and as a National Youth Leader and Board Member of the Lutheran Church of Uganda. These roles allow him to reach people not only in the classroom, but throughout the wider community.
That belief has shaped his work for years.
Timothy has consistently advocated for girls’ education, encouraging families to provide every child with the same opportunities to learn, regardless of gender. He has also supported child mothers in returning to school, believing that motherhood should never bring a girl’s education or future ambitions to an end.
One story remains especially close to his heart. He mentored a young mother, Eseza Kayanga, encouraging and supporting her as she returned to school to continue her education. For Timothy, her journey is a reminder that changing one life can inspire change far beyond a single classroom.
His commitment also extends well beyond education. He has personally intervened in situations where women were experiencing abuse, speaking directly with families to help mothers leave abusive marriages and find safer paths forward. At the same time, he has become a dedicated advocate against child marriage, raising awareness since 2021 about girls’ rights and the importance of protecting every child’s future.
At the school where he teaches, Timothy supports a girls’ club whose members reach beyond the school gates. Together, they visit communities to raise awareness about the dangers of early marriage, encourage families to value girls’ education, and promote equal opportunities for every child.
For Timothy, meaningful change happens when education reaches the wider community.
Whether speaking in church gatherings, community meetings, or through social media, he believes dialogue is essential for changing attitudes and creating lasting progress. Every conversation is an opportunity to challenge harmful norms, encourage respect, and inspire others to become part of the solution.
His dedication has earned him the trust of those around him.
Community members regularly seek his guidance when family conflicts arise, while Namungalwe Parents Secondary School has become known as a place of discipline, learning, and progress. His election as Youth Chairperson for the 2025 to 2031 term reflects the confidence people place in both his leadership and his character.
His commitment to equality is equally visible within his own workplace.
Timothy actively employs female staff, encourages girls to step into leadership roles, and ensures that responsibilities are shared fairly, regardless of gender. For him, equality should never be limited to speeches or policies. It should be reflected in everyday decisions and opportunities.
Integrity is another cornerstone of his leadership.
He believes that leadership requires transparency, accountability, and the willingness to put the interests of others before personal gain. By leading with honesty and fairness, he hopes to inspire young people to become responsible leaders themselves.
At the heart of Timothy’s work lies a simple conviction: every girl deserves the same opportunities as every boy.
That belief continues to guide him as an educator, mentor, and youth leader. Every student he encourages, every family he supports, and every conversation he starts brings his community one step closer to a future where equality is not simply an aspiration but an everyday reality.
Jeremiah Lucas Opira Foundation and Northhood Production Initiative are proud to recognize Timothy Waigolo as one of the winners of the National Champions Advancing Inclusion Awards 2026. Through his dedication to education, girls’ rights, ethical leadership, and community engagement, Timothy is helping create a future where every young person has the opportunity to learn, lead, and reach their full potential.
